Spooky but not overly scary, good role models

I'm trying to branch out and read books I wouldn't usually read - and it turns out I liked this one! This is a simple story for younger readers, with a fun premise and good characters. I love the way it presents a spooky theme without being too scary! The characters in the story are all good role models, and the only villain is an object (:
