Ruckus by Laurie Elmquist is a heartwarming book for young readers. The book explores the subject of having separated parents in a way that children will understand and relate to. The obvious plot of the story, however, is about the dog, Ruckus. I think this was a good choice because it makes it so that the story deals with children living with separated parents, but is still a fun story about a Jack Russell Terrier. The book has reasonably large print and simple words, so is good for young children who are just beginning to read chapter books.
