Jack and Annie live in Frog Creek, Pennsylvania. One day, while they are out playing in the forest near their house, they find a mysterious treehouse. It is extremely high up and has a rope ladder leading to it, and it definitely wasn't there the day before. Even stranger, though, is the huge collection of books that are inside the treehouse. Soon, the children realize that it is no ordinary treehouse - it's a magic treehouse! The magic treehouse can transport them to any time or place, and the kids go on countless adventures and missions.

Though I am often very skeptical of this sort of mass-produced children's series (the magic treehouse series has 61 books, not to mention the toys, instructional books, and online purchases you can get along with it) I actually have always loved the Magic Treehouse books. As someone who read a good chunk of these books when I was eight or nine, I can say that they are perfectly engaging and interesting for young readers. Re-reading the first book of the series at the age of sixteen, the only issue I noticed was constant cliffhanger chapters, but of all the problems a book can have, that's really not a big one.

This is the kind of series you may be tempted to read in a randomized order, but I assure you, it does develop a plot! You won't notice it at first, but once you've gotten a few books in, the plot begins to evolve and you no longer want to be skipping books or jumping ahead! Trust me, I made this mistake.
