The Marvels by Brian Selznick

Updated: Jan 7, 2022

This is an amazing book about a boy who runs away from his school to live with an uncle in London. While staying there, the boy uncovers loads of interesting family history and information about his uncle. This book is unique because it is more than fifty percent illustrations, not just illustrations of what is happening in the text, but illustrations that form their own story and are tied into the text in their own remarkable way. This is a must read for anyone.

OVERALL RATING 9.8/10

This is a seriously genius book. Everything ties together so remarkably and every chapter leaves wanting to continue reading, not because a beloved character is in peril, but because you are so enthralled with the plot. I can't imagine a person who would not love this book.

CONS

It is a very thick and expensive book due to the very large amount of illustrations, but I think it's worth the price.
