The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants by Ann Brashares

Updated: Jan 7, 2022

I didn't expect much of this book when I first saw it. I always have a suspicion that any book that is popular and for teens will also be bad. I guess I should end that view of things once and for all, though, because this was a good book! The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants is the story of four girls navigating the difficult time between being a child and an adult. Each of the teens is unique and has a completely individual story line, and because of that, the book covers almost every type of hardship and lifestyle. The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants is not a very emotionally light read, but it is a wonderful summer read and it's not to hard mentally.

OVERALL RATING 8/10

I have yet to find a truly spectacular book that has teenage main characters, but this one is well near the top of my list of the YA books that I have read. It shows a diverse range of people and situations, so it is very relatable no matter who you are. The book also has a good plot and is written dynamically. PROS Exciting Fun A good amount of drama

Easy read

CONS

As with most YA novels, it is written about teenagers, but created from the mind of an adult. The characters are not as realistic as they could have been.

Hahaha I remember reading this with very low expectations, for sure! The Princess Diaries series was another pleasant surprise but honestly it's been a while.
